Ingredients For Preparing Yam Pottage | Yam Porridge {ASARO} Pottage Recipe
- A tuber of yam
- 1 medium sized of onion
- Blend pepper (Tatashe)
- Scotch bonnet chillies
- 2 tomatoes {tin}
- 1/2 cup of Palm oil
- 2 tablespoons of crayfish
- Seasoning powder or stock cubes
- Salt to taste
- Meat {optional}
- Spinach or any green vegetable {optional}
Procedures
These are the simple procedures to take in other to have a successful meal:
1. peel and cut the yam into medium-sized.
2. Wash the sliced yam and drain the water.
3. Blend the fresh pepper, scotch bonnet chill, and onions and set aside.
4. Boil your meat for 5 minutes with seasoning, and set aside.
5. Place the pot on medium heat and put the yam chunks into the pot, add water just to the level of the Yams and let it cook for about 15 minutes, add salt and bring to boil till yam is almost tender.
6. When the yam is almost tender, Add the Sauce, Palm Oil, sliced onions, Cray Fish, Salt to taste, and Stock Cubes and allow it to cook.
7. Add the meat {You can also add whatever meat that you like, such as Smoked Fish, Prawns, Smoked Turkey etc}
8. By using a wooden spoon or ladle to mash or break the yams {if you desire to mash or break all the yam or leave some chunks behind}.
9. Then, add chopped spinach or green vegetable into the yam porridge and cook for 5 minutes or you can skip.
10. Allow it to simmer for 3 minutes
